Abstract
Background: The evolution of modern technologies allows us to study anatomy through modern anatomy application which utilizes three dimensional (3D) and
imaging technology. Traditional methods such as lectures, dissection and prosection, atlases and text books, and tutorials are still commonly used. The use of
smartphones, tablets, and computers as studying media eases students’ access to study anatomy.
Objective: To know the preference of studying anatomy among Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Faculty of Medicine’s class of 2016 and 2017.
Methods: the research was done cross sectionally to 334 medical students which divided into 188 students from the class of 2016 and 146 students from the class of
2017. The preference of studying anatomy was assessed with a questionnaire.
Results: Majority of the students (304 students) felt that students learned best from seeing specimens and follow a workbook with medically qualified demonstrators
around so they can ask questions. Statistic results of Mann-Whitney U test showed that there was a significant difference between the uses of anatomy application to help them understand anatomy.
Conclusions: The preference of studying anatomy among Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Faculty of Medicine’s class of 2016 and 2017 is from seeing
specimens and follow a workbook with medically qualified demonstrators around so they can ask questions. Students also interested in studying clinical skills and examinations in anatomy sessions. Students use anatomy atlases most to help them understand anatomy.
