Abstract
Introduction. Depression, dementia, insomnia is a clinical and public health problem that is often encountered in the elderly that can cause significant suffering, exacerbates morbidity and disability. The disorder is not only influenced by biological factors, but also by
psychosocial stressors.
Objective: to identify the influence of psychosocial stressors, depression and dementia for insomnia in the elderly in social house Tresna Elderly II Budi Mulia Jakarta.
Methods: Cross-sectional study of 103 elderly were obtained by random sampling, July-December 2014 in Social Institutions Tresna Elderly II Budi Mulia, Jakarta. Collecting data by interview and questionnaire respondents fill demographics, chronic physical illness, psychosocial stressors, Geriatric Depression Scale 15 (GDS 15), the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Insomnia Severity Index (lSI). Analysis of the research is the analysis of univariate, multivariate Stepwise Logistic Regression.
Results: 103 elderly in this study with a mean age of 70.8 years and 52.4% were female. Most (57.3%) of elderly with chronic physical diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, high psychosocial stressors (43.7%), depression (45.6%), dementia (83.5%) and insomnia (42.7%). Significance of risk factors for insomnia are age, chronic physical illness, psychosocial stressors, and depression (p<0.005). Multivariate logistic regression analysis, the significance of factors contribute to insomnia in the elderly is depression, chronic physical illness and psychosocial stressors (p<0.05) and the most dominant factor in elderly insomnia is depression (p=O.OOO) and Odd ratio 16.18.
Conclusion: Depression has the most significant effect on the increase in the occurrence of insomnia in the elderly.
