Abstract
Indonesia as a developing country with one of the fastest growing economies in the world and Japan as a developed country with one of the largest consumer goods and services market in the world, certainly has different macroeconomic conditions. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of inflation, country risk, gross domestic product and consumer spending on stock returns with profitability as intervening. The object of research in this study are consumer goods companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2013-2016. Because there is multicollinearity in research data, ridge regression procedure was chosen to analyze the data. The results of this study indicate that there is no effect of gross domestic product, inflation, risks and consumer spending on return on equtiy. The result of this research also shows that there is influence from return on equity to stock return.
