Background : Environment and social contact are some of the most important factors of tuberculosis transmission. Medical students, especially ones in the clinical years, have a higher prevalence of pulmonary TB compared to society in general. Because of the risk, it is important to implement a proper pulmonary TB prevention practice in medical students. This study aims to learn about the level of knowledge and attitude of medical students in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia towards pulmonary TB, and their association towards pulmonary TB prevention practice in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Methods : This study is a cross sectional descriptive analytic study involving clinical year medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Data studied consists of knowledge, attitude, and practice of pulmonary TB prevention which are assessed using questionnaire. Variables are then analyzed using Fisher’s exact test. Results: Results showed 81.67% of the respondents have good TB knowledge, 99.17% of the respondents have positive attitude towards TB prevention, and 91.67% of the respondents have good practice of TB prevention. Bivariate analysis with Fisher’s exact test obtained results in which there was no association between knowledge level with practice of pulmonary TB prevention (p=0.218) and no association between attitude with practice of pulmonary TB prevention (p=1.000). Conclusion : The overall level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of pulmonary TB prevention in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia is well. There is no significant association between knowledge or attitude level towards practice of pulmonary TB prevention. |
