The paper by Timmermans and McKay "Clinical trials as treatment option: Bioethics and Health Care Disparities in Substance Dependency" (2009) makes a significant contribution to our understanding of both clinical trials as treatment and the bioethical issues usually discussed under the topic of therapeutic misconception. Although the paper has some significant problems, which I will discuss below, there is a lot to like about the paper
