We thank Collins and Alpert for their interest in and attention to our work in their commentary on this issue (Collins & Alpert, 2009). We also thank them for highlighting their recent publication (Collins, Somes, & Alpert, 2008) demonstrating racial/ethnic differences in pulse wave velocity (PWV) based on brachial-ankle compliance (as opposed to carotid-femoral PWV in our study).
