Abstract
Background: Asthma is chronic disease that needs continuous medication causing higher health cost burden. In Indonesia, it is estimated that 4.5% of citizen suffer from asthma. This disease commonly higher in urban compared to rural areas due to asthma trigger is higher pollutant level. Jakarta is one city with PM10 pollutant level higher than safe threshold. Asthma risk incident in Jakarta is certainly higher on informal worker that are exposed to pollutant day by day.
Objectives: Discover asthma incident prevalence and comparison on informal worker at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia and Jagakarsa, Jakarta and its causing factors.
Method: This research used cross-sectional design that involved 130 informal workers at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia and Jagakarsa, Jakarta in July 2017. Data collected using ATS-DLD 78A questionnaire through respondent interview at Jagakarsa and questionnaire filling for respondent at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia. Data then processed using univariate and bivariate analysis using Chi-Square test with p < 0.05 significance.
Result: There were 33 respondents (25.4%) suffering from asthma. Respondent at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia suffered from asthma more (43.1%) compared than those at Jagakarsa with p = 0.000. Male respondent (33.3%) suffered from asthma more than female respondents (9.5%) with p = 0.004.
Conclusion: There were higher asthma sufferers at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia compared with those at Jagakarsa. Male gender suffered asthma more than female. It can be concluded that asthma incident is influenced by location and gender.
