Around 40-96% stroke patients get complication, with the highest is pneumonia (33%). The potentiality of stroke to get dysphagia (28-65%) and depressed consciousness (4-38%) are found to cause aspiration pneumonia. Lack research of aspiration pneumonia in Indonesia make the treatment can’t be done optimally yet. Method: This was a descriptive analytical research with cross sectional approach towards 263 stroke patients in Atma Jaya Hospital. Research started on February 2016 until October 2017. Data was taken from stroke registry and hospital medical record. Data analysis used Chi-square test, with alpha=0.05. Results: There were 42 (16%) of 263 stroke patients got aspiration pneumonia. Dysphagia and depressed consciousness could increase the aspiration pneumonia risk with Odds ratio 3.92 and 8.67 times. Stroke patients older than 65 years old were also risk factors to get aspiration pneumonia, with Odds ratio 2.26. Conclusion: Dysphagia and depressed consciousness could influence the coordination and reflex of swallowing and made stroke patients more vulnerable getting aspiration pneumonia.
