Abstract
Background : Diabetic ulcer is a diabetes melitus (DM) complication which increases the risk of amputation. Diabetic wounds provide a good environment for bacterial growth that leads to tissue damage. Antibiotic therapy is commonly used to eradicate bacterial growth. Determining antibiotic therapy should be based on bacterial culture and antibiotic susceptibility test results.
Objective : To figure out aerob bacterial pattern from diabetic ulcer in Atma Jaya Hospital.
Method : This is a retrospective cross sectional study, using medical records of all DM patients with diabetic ulcer in Atma Jaya Hospital from January 2014 – December 2016.
Results : 70 bacterial isolates were isolated from 40 diabetic ulcer, with Staphylococcus aureus (21,4%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (14,3%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (10,0%) and Proteus mirabilis (8,6%) as the most frequent pathogen isolated. The Gram negative bacterias were sensitive to Amikacin (88,9%), Meropenem (83,3%), and Piperacillin-Tazobactam (75,7%). The Gram positive bacterias were sensitive to Vancomycin (93,8%), Linezolid (90,3%), and Ampicillin-Sulbactam (84,4%).
Conclusions : Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae were the two most common bacterias isolated from diabetic ulcer. Amikacin, Meropenem, and Piperacillin-Tazobactam had sensitivity over 75% against Gram negative bacterias, while Vancomycin (93,8%), Linezolid (90,3%), and Ampicillin-Sulbactam (84,4%) had sensitivity over 75% against Gram positive bacterias.
