Background. Life satisfaction is an important thing in the elderly life to achieve successful aging. Factors that can affect the level of life satisfaction elderly, such as sociodemographic factors, health conditions, environmental factors, economic factors, and social support. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of sociodemographic factors, especially gender, chronic diseases such as diabetes, and other related factors such as social support, and disability with the level of life satisfaction in the elderly in Pusaka, West Jakarta. Methodology. This study is a cross-sectional analytic study conducted on 151 elderly (= 60 years old) in Pusaka, West Jakarta. The data were collected by filling questionnaires about sociodemographic factors, history of chronic disease, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), barthel index (ADL and IADL), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Blood pressure measurements were performed with a sphygmomanometer and a lab examination was performed to check for diabetes. The data were analyzed using Chi Square test to find the influence of sociodemographic factors, chronic disease, health behavior, social support, and disability to life satisfaction level in elderly with the confidence interval is 95%. Results. The level of life satisfaction in elderly in Pusaka, West Jakarta was 76.2%. There was a significant influence between sex (p = 0,015) and diabetes (p = 0,034) on life satisfaction level. Other factors do not show any significant effect. but when viewed the percentage, life satisfaction experienced by men, independent, and who have no history of chronic diseases. Conclusion. Life satisfaction is important in aging process and is influenced by various factors. Maintaining a healthy body, preventing the onset of illness, and providing social support is something that can be done to improve life satisfaction in the elderly. |
