Introduction Atopic dermatitis (DA) is a chronic and residual inflammatory skin disease accompanied by severe drought, pruritus, and itching. Atopic dermatitis is common in infants and children with elevated serum IgE levels and a history of atopy in the patient's family. Atopic dermatitis is closely related to stress. According to research by Francisco Tausk (2011) in New York, the United States found that 70% of DA sufferers are stressed. Method This research was conducted in 2017 using survey method, with cross sectional approach. The research sample (n=60) is active students in School of Medicine, Indonesian Catholic University of Atma Jaya who enrolled at year 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Observation of the severity of atopic dermatitis is determined by SCORAD. The stress level assessment was determined by DASS 42 questionnaire. Primary data was collected and analyzed using Spearman correlation test with significance level of p <0.01. Results The prevalence of DA was 36.7% with 18 respondents (30%) had mild severity. The prevalence of stress level was 58.3% with 18 respondents (30%) respondents were in mild stress level. There was no significant correlation between stress level and DA severity (p = 0,504). Conclusion There was no statistically significant correlation between stress level and DA severity. However, the result showed 10 respondents (55.6%) of 18 respondents (100%) who have mild degrees of DA, have mild degree of stress as well. |
