Isi artikel
In this article, the author explores the Internet, particularly the video sharing site of YouTube, as a new space for dance research. The inquiry revolves around igal, a Sama Dilaut (aka Bajau laut) dance tradition and how it is projected and (re)created in YouTube by both insiders and outsiders of the culture. YouTube and other video-sharing sites offer the researcher a diverse world of production(s) of dance that situate the amateur videographer side by side with market-oriented media firms. It also allows otherwise marginalized owners of tradtional dance as cultural property to air views and create a forum of distinction of relatively easy access.
