Isi artikelReading comic strips is fun. The conversation between the characters makes the readers laugh. The conversations between the characters imply something. In other words, the characters answer the questions shockingly and surprisingly. This makes readers laugh at the end. Nevertheless, if the readers do not understand the meaning of the conversations, they do not laugh. The reasons readers laugh are they know some sort of knowledge of conditions of the culture, custom, and activities of the characters in comic strips. The objectives of the study is to describe kinds of maxims in The Born Loser and to find out whether violations appear in The Born Loser. The result of this study that some violations are found in The Born Loser.
