Isi artikelScores of 285 students from several primary and secondary schools in Brunei Darussalamare compared and contrastedin relationto anumber of variables including (1) attitude towards teachers, (2) attitude towards learning processes, (3) attitude towards language arts, (4) attitude towards mathematics, and (5) reading and comprehension ability in English by using Arlin-Hills Attitude Surveys (Arlin& Hills, 1976) and some suitable reading materials. The major research questions posed are: (1) Are there any relationshipsbetween the five variables? (2)Are there any similarities/differences within and across groups? (3) Are there any differences in scores for the above five dependent variables and a number of independent variables including age, sex and race? The results indicate both positive and negative correlations among the five dependent variables and significant differences between the primary and secondary students. Additional ANOVA statistics indicate that the reading ability of students differs significantly in relation to a number of independent variables. The paper ends with a discussion of some of the major factorsthat could have contributed to these findings and calls for additional relevant research in this area.
