Isi artikel
In this paper I describe some of the problems facing the literacy movement in the Solomon Islands. Those problems are geographic — related to communication, economic and linguistic as well as the breaking down of political and social barriers. It is difficult to give a short yet still accurate picture of a culture which is so different to those we know well from more developed or bigger countries. It is necessary, however, to attempt to do so in order to give insight into the people, their language, so inextricably joined to their culture, and their powerlessness.
