Isi artikelSocial Sciences work to develop knowledge, values, attitudes, and social and citizenship skills for learners which can be reflected in the life of the community, nation, and state of Indonesia. In the process of learning in schools, IPS is one of the 'label" for various fields of study or subjects that are derived from the disciplines of social sciences and humanities, like history, ecomonics, anthropology, earth science education at primary, secondary, and higher education. The objective of this article is to discuss the role of the Social Sciences lectureres in teaching of social studies in elementary schools. The method used analytical descriptive. It is concludes that social studies is not a science but rather knowledge which means that it is taught not as the social theories or social sciences but funcional knowledge and practical things. They are useful for self-learners and life present and the future in various environments and various aspects of life. Social lerning should be designed and developed by a professional teacher to encourage sacial reform essential, through the efforts of building a consensus on the value and virtues in human life It requires an intellectual role LPTK lecturer who has an important role in providing a professional teacher in social studies learning.
