Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder of which genetically and clinically manivestations are associated with loss of carbohydrate tolerance. DM Type 2 which is not insulin dependent, is a common type of diabetes (more than 90%). DM Type 2 and an increase in blood uric acid levels often occur simultaneously. Uric acid as the end product of purine metabolism in humans increased in many people with DM type 2. This study aimed to determine the correlation between DM type 2 and uric acid levels in blood. This analytic observational study used cross-sectional design. Technique of sampling used consecutive sampling method, with a total sample of 74 people. Univariate analysis were the sample characteristics data such as age, blood uric acid levels, and sex. Bivariate analysis used unpaired T test to determine differences in mean measurements of blood uric acid levels between DM type 2 and non DM type 2. Results showed there were differences in rates of blood uric acid levels between DM type 2 (y = 0.007) and non-DM type 2 (p = 0.007). In this study, the prevalence ratio was 3, so it can be concluded that respondents with DM type 2 has risk of the increased uric acid levels 3 times higher than non DM type 2. Conclusions of this research were a relationship between DM type 2 with uric acid levels in blood, significant differences in average uric acid levels in DM 2 and non DM type 2 md DM type 2 patients had three times greater risk to have the increased uric acid comped with non-DM type 2 patients.
