Isi artikelDetermining the cause of peripheral oedema is a common challenge in primary care. Peripheral oedema can be either binign or the presenting feature of one of many serious madical conditions. Common systemic causes include congestive hearth failure, liver failure, and kidney dysfunction. Localized oedema is usually due to venous or lymphatic insufficiency. Deep vein thrombosis is a potentially life-threatening cause of leg swelling. Here, we present a clinical approach to the assessment and management of peripheral oedema.
