Abstract
Background: Foot arch index is one of the risk factors for knee pain. Knee pain can lead to functional restriction, mobility and reduced quality of life.
Objectives: To identify the correlation between foot arch index with knee pain among Atma Jaya Catholic University Faculty of Medicine batch 2016
Methods: This study is a cross-sectional research conducted at Faculty of Medicine Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Respondent of the research were 97 students and chosen by purposive sampling method. Foot arch index measured by making making foot prints and calculating them with the Staheli Arch Index (SAI) formula. Knee pain measured by knee pain questionnare. The collected data were analyzed by chi-square test to determine the correlation between foot arch index with knee pain.
Results: Among 97 respondents 6 pes cavus , 59 pes rectus and 32 pes planus. Knee pain was found in 19 respondents (2 respondents with pes cavus, 6 respondents with pes rectus and 11 respondents with pes planus)
Conclusions: There was a significant association between pes planus and knee pain, but there was no association between pes cavus and knee pain.
