Abstract
Background. Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that can be caused by inheritance or insulin deficiency in pancreas or by ineffectivity of insulin production. DM also associated with Acanthosis Nigricans. Objectives. This study is done to know the prevalence of Acanthosis Nigricans in Diabetes Melltius Type 2 patients and also to know the characteristics of the disease and factors that are associated. Methods. This study is an analytic descriptive using 68 Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 patients to know the prevalence of Acanthosis Nigricans. The Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patient that have Acanthosis Nigricans are then analyzed with the factors that are associated by using Chi-Square cross sectional test. Result. The results showed that there are 10 from 68 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients that have Acanthosis Nigricans (14.7%). There is a significance correlation between Body Mass Index with Acanthosis Nigricans (p<0.05). But there are no correlation between age (p>0.05) Acanthosis Nigricans and also between sex (p>0.05) with Acanthosis Nigricans. HbA1c that is being tested also showed no correlation with Acanthosis Nigricans. Conclusion. The prevalence of Acanthosis Nigricans in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at Atma Jaya Hospital Jakarta (14.7%). There is a correlation between Acanthosis Nigricans and BMI, but there are none between Acanthosis Nigricans with HbA1c, age, and sex.
