The purposes of the study were to find out parental perceptions level toward childhood asthma And other personal factors,which were related to them; and the difference of perception toward Childhood asthma between parents of asthmatic and non-asthmatic junior high school students in The Municipality of Yogyakarta. The study was the second phase of the main study, which Examined asthma prevalence among junior high school students in Municipality of Yogyakarta, Carried out from May 1998 to May 1999. Samples were taken from parents of students who were defined as asthmatic children from the previous asthma prevalence study, and parents of non-asthmatic children as controls group. Questionnaires were used to explore information on parental perception, personal data, perception about the symptoms and dangers of asthma, causes, triggers, benefits of prevention, and parents' acts to deal with childhood asthma. The study revealed that asthma prevalence among junior high school students in Yogyakarta Municipality was 10.5 %. Parental perception toward asthma was high. More than 60 % of Parents gave right answers. Parental education level ware not significantly related with Perception to ward asthma. Maternal occupation was significantly related with parental Perception about the dangers of asthma (p=0,023) and actions taken by parents to deal with Asthma (ap=O,Oll).
