The objective of this study was to find out the relationship between worm infestation on children with parental perception about worm disease in primary school children in the Sub district of AmpanaKota, Poso, Central Sulawesi using cross-sectional study design. Two hundred primary schoolchildren were randomly selected from the total population of 4200 primary school children in the area. Stools of the school children were examined using a direct method. Parental perceptions weremeasured using questionnaires that include statement on worm disease, its transmission, and the impact of the disease. It was revealed that of the 200 subjects, 198 subjects were fulfillin,g the requirement for analysis. The lacks of perception regarding worm infestation were found on 54 (27%) subjects and appropriate perceptions were found on 146 (73%) subjects. The high or low perceptionsabout worm infestation were not clinically and statistically different. It was concluded that the worm infestation of the primary school children of Ampana Kota was not related with parentalperception about worm infestation. This might be attributed to the lack of communication, informationand education received by parents on worm infestation. (JumalEpidemiologiIndonesia, 2000.4:1: 27-31)
