Isi artikelThe ‘craft’ agri–food industry, based on traditional skills, is largely dominated by women. For this sector to reach its full potential, training programmes associating both literacy and vocational skills need to be created. The article below is based on a study on the training of women in the craft food industry carried out by the Group for Research and Technological Exchange (GRET)1 in Senegalese micro-enterprises. Adynamic, essentially feminine sector due to its easy access, its application of domestic or traditional skills, and the minimal capital outlay needed, the craft food industry plays a key role in the employment and income of women. It also provisions towns with products suited to the taste and purchasing power of their inhabitants.
