The ministry of Agriculture has launched a Strategic Plan (Renstra) in 2010-2014 by achieving food self-sufficiency. One of the targets of the self-sufficiency is aimed at increasing the self-sufficiency of beef production target to reach 550 thousand tonnes in 2014. This effort is done in order to fulfil the beef demand, which continues to increase and compete with the availability of beef. However, efforts to achieve the goal of beef self-sufficiency must be supported by increased livestock numbers. This paper discussed about the policy of the attainment of beef self-sufficiency and considered ways to reach the goal of self-sufficiency based on the Renstra 2010 in context.
