Isi artikelTHROUGHOUT Latin America, enrolment in secondary education has increased. However, drop-out rates are still high, and the quality of education is poor. There has been an increase in unemployment and under-employment among young people. Young workers tend to obtain poorly-paid, insecure jobs with no social protection, including the few young people who get work in the formal sector. Given the economic deterioration, poor young people are compelled to take on occasional work in the informal sector. Those hardest hit tend to be teenagers (especially female), and youth who did not complete secondary education.
