Background : Breastmilk contains many nutritions that useful for child’s health, therefore, Indonesian government created a law that related to exclusive breastfeeding for children. However, the rates of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains low in the year of 2013, 54.3%, this rate is still far from the target rate (80%). Indonesian Health Department reported that 400.000 children under 5 years old in Indonesia experiencing development issues, both fine motor and rough motor, hearing problems, low intelligence and speech delay. Goals : To identify relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with 9-24 months old children development. Method : This cross sectional research was done on 97 9-24 months old children in Penjaringan, North Jakarta. Instruments used on this rersearch were The Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST II) and Breastfeeding and Infant/Young Child Feeding questionnaire. Data was analyzed with chi-square method. Results : Respondent of this research were 97 9-24 months old children in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, which 55.7% of them didn’t get exclusive breastfeeding and 72.2% of them don’t have normal development. The chi-square analysis showed that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with 9-24 months old children development (p=0.02). Conclusion : There is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with 9-24 months old children development. Children that got exclusive breastfeeding has a better development than children that didn’t get exclusive breastfeeding. |
