Abstract
Abstract Rice is a major requirement for urban and rural communities. The people of Ponggang village are mainly people who work as farmers. Ponggang village is located in subang district, which is a hilly area and has a water source that is under die residential area of the residents. The village is inhabited by 70 heads of households with a low level of education with the majority of livelihoods in agriculture. The farming system in Dusun Ponggang still adheres to the ancestral custom which is full of customary rituals. In every rice harvest, ponggang hamlet still uses traditional tool of arit to cut rice in their fields. The tool is made based on the results of research by collecting information and data processing useful to support the design of the machine tool to build a cutting tool that is useful for the needs of Ponggang Village. Before designing the alternatives of existing concepts, it is necessary to describe the functions that exist in the rice cutting machine. After getting the junctions of die tool the next step is to design the concept using the morphological chart. After obtaining some alternative concepts, then the next step is to do concept selection by using Pugh Concept Selection and do concept assessment using decision matrix. After obtaining the selected kosep, then analyzed to produce Product Design Specification, namely cutting tool made with the form of cross sections that can produce faster cutting of rice and grip that can facilitate consumers in accordance with their needs and can be followed by system level design and detail in order to make cutting tools rice until it becomes the whole material and in accordance with the needs of ponggang community
