Effect of DLBS3233, an Insulin Sensitizer, on Fructose-Induced Insulin Resistance Rat

Increased insulin and glucose in the blood plasma is believed to be the beginning of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus, which can lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases. In order to elucidate the pharmacological action of DLBS3233, a natural insulin synthesizer, we performed a pharmacodynamic study in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain). The rats were divided into three groups (n = 7): control group, insulin-resistant group and treated group. Random glucose, postprandial glucose, fasting glucose, and fasting insulin levels were measured. In addition, total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) were also measured to investigate the effect of DLBS3233 on lipid panel. The results showed that DLBS3233 lower the level of blood glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, LDL, and TG while increasing HDL cholesterol in blood significantly. HOMA score was also decreased significantly suggesting that DLBS3233 is a potential insulin sensitizer.
