Background: Indonesia is a developing country that has a fast economic grow with 5% growth every year. The fast economic growth not only make a good impact, but also create a bad impact. People’s mindset tend to become more materialistic, focus on lifestyle, so that people are spending more than their revenue. Indonesia as a consumptive country, may impact the presence of people who are addicted to shopping. Shopping addiction is one of the biggest addiction problem in the world. Shopping addiction is an addiction that has a bad impact, either in social side, financial side, and also emotional side. In Indonesia, there is a quite prevalence data of shopping addiction. Therefore, there is a need to find the prevalence of shopping addiction in Indonesia, and to know the need of a follow-up to this addiction.
Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach on 500 respondents who is a pre-clinical student of Faculty of Medicine of Catholic University of Indonesia Atma Jaya class of 2014, 2015, and 2016. Shopping addiction will be tested with Compulsive Buying Scale.
Result: From 500 respondents in total, 6.8% or 34 people have shopping addiction. Shopping addiction is more possessed by respondent who live alone, have a poor economic conditions, and also have a credit card. Students who choose to shop at online store are more likely to suffer from shopping addiction.
Conclusion: There is 6.8% of pre-clinical student of Faculty of Medicine of Catholic University of Indonesia Atma Jaya who are addicted to shopping. |
