Abstract
Background. The aim of medical education is basically to establish professional doctors through standardized processes based on public needs. The learning process in preclinical education has been adjusted to Standard of Indonesian Doctor Competence to support preclinical students in facing clinical education and becoming a general practitioner.
Objectives. To know the overview of level 3 and 4 medical disease competence achievement in 2013’s preclinical student at Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
Methods. This is a descriptive analytic study with mixed method design, which is a quantitative approach using questionnaires to 181 preclinical students of 2013 and a qualitative approach using Focus Group Disscussion (FGD) with 9 preclinical students of 2013. The quantitative data analyzing process uses descriptive analysis method and for the qualitative data uses thematic analysis method.
Results. Competence achievements in 2013’s preclinical students at Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia are appropriate, above, and below the level of competence achievement in Standard of Indonesian Doctor Competence. There are several factors that influence the competence achievements of the preclinical students, which is student factors, material factors, curriculum factors, faculty factors, environmental factors, and facility factors.
Conclusions. Competence achievements in 2013’s preclinical students at Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia have various result according to competence achievement in Standard of Indonesian Doctor Competence and influenced by student factors, material factors, curriculum factors, faculty factors, environmental factors, and facility factors.
