Abstract
Background This days, we are faced with increasing physical inactivity around the world. Physical inactivity has serious health implication that capable of escalating risk on premature death and non communicable diseases. Thus increasing people’s activity level is very important. Stair climbing is one of the activity that freely available in all sectors, yet many people rarely choose the stairs because there is another alternative, the lift. Hence, an intervention is needed to encourage people to improve stair climbing behaviour.
Objectives This study have three aims. The first aim is to compare behaviour change and vital signs change in pre and post intervention subjects. The second aim is to compare vital signs change between intervention group and control group, and the third aim is to get the most effective intervention method.
Methods Data collected in this study were quantitative data and qualitative data. The research took place in two different buildings, in Pluit and in Semanggi. This study used observation to collect number of people who take the stairs, whereas vital signs data were collected with general examination. Data was then analyzed with Kurskal-Wallis test because the distribution of data is abnormal. In the other hand, quantitave data collected from interview was analyzed with content analysis method, as qualitative data was analyzed by inter rater.
Result and Summary The result of study analysis shows that intervention for increasing stair climbing behaviour in Pluit and Semanggi campus doesn’t have significant statistic chage. The result of vital sign analysis in Pluit campus also doesn't have significant change, but the result of vital sign analysis in Semanggi campus shows significant change in repiratory rate. Vital sign analysis result between intervention and control group shows there is significant change in all vital signs of Pluit campus subject except in sistole blood pressure. In Semanggi campus subject, all the vital signs doesn't have significant change except in the respiratory rate. Based on qualitative data analysis, the most effective intervention is poster.
Suggestion Study of Intervention in increasing stair climbing behaviour needs to be continued in the future. The future study can use method which is use in current study but the method has to be improved to perfection. Moreover the current study obtained that poster and stickers are not effective if the objective of the study is Y and Z generation. So in the next study with objective to Y and Z generation the recommendation method is social media method. The reason is because social media is convinient with characteristic of Y and Z generation.
