Isi artikelThe present paper attempts to uncover syntactic aspects of wh-questions in Sundanese which was at first suspected to contradict the principles of Minimalism. Preliminary data appear to show optionality in the formation of wh-questions. Optionality is believed (in the context of Universal Grammar) to make it harder for children to acquire language since this means children have to acquire a lot more rules that it should be. However, after a careful analysis by applying Minimalism as a research program, I demonstrate that apparent optionality in Sundanese wh-questions does not contradict the principles of Universal Grammar. In fact, optionality can be easily accounted for by relating it to the concept of parameters.
