Isi artikelThe paper discusses the Javanese speaker's ability in accommodating scientific texts. The analysis shows the range of expliotation for the texts/ Two articles from a scientific column in a Javanese magazine, Panjebar Semangat, were selected as data. The results indicated that Javanese does not have many scientific abstractions and technical terms in the subject being discussed in the articles. This shortage of the words caused the writer of the articles exploited technical terms from other languages, mostly from Indonesian and English. In many constructions, the local language contributes to only the grammatical, as opposed to the functional aspect to the sentence construction, for example, " Bisa wae muncul pnemunia bakteri sekunder dening Streptococcus pneumoniae, haemophilus influenzae, utawa Staphylococcus aureus." This example shows that most of the words in the constructions are borrowed from other languages because Javanese does not provide the concepts represented by the words in it lexicon. Although the language shows superiority in modifying borrowed words with its affixation system, the language exploitation for the articles still shows that Javanese lacks the lexicon for accomodating scientific texts.
