Abstract
Every employee working in a multinational corporation will need to adapt with the cultural differences with both corporate culture and also the home country culture where the corporate headquarter is located. The process of cultural adaptation is a complex process that needed not only the ability to learn and assimilate with the new culture but also the medium to transfer the cultural knowledge. If new employee fails to adapt with the cultural differences, they will feel estranged in the company. This feeling of not belonging in the company will eventually lead to unsatisfied employees. One of the medium to transfer these cultural information is through intercultural communication between people what has been successfully adapted with the new culture.
This research tries to learn the effect of cultural adaptation through intercultural communication towards employee satisfaction in comparison with the direct effect of cultural adaptation towards employee satisfaction. Using a quantitative approach, the writer uses questionnaire that is distributed to 84 Indonesian Employee in PT. Asuransi Tokio Marine Indonesia to collect the data. The data is then analyzed using SPSS 23 Software and further evaluated using path analysis technique.
The result of this research shows that cultural adaptation and intercultural communication together have a very strong correlation towards employee satisfaction. Furthermore, the path analysis shows that intercultural communication plays an important role to mediate the process of cultural adaptation towards employee satisfaction; given that the effect of cultural adaptation through intercultural communication towards employee satisfaction is more significant compared to the direct effect of cultural adaptation towards employee satisfaction.
