Abstract
Quality education demands teachers’ competence to manage learning prosess in the classroom for developing students’ ability. Teachers’ ability in the classroom management is one of the manifests of pedagogical competence, which required in creating conducive learning for students so that they are able to develop their potentials optimally. Effective classroom management behaviors are related to many variables. Several of them that hypothesized are self-confidence, career commitment, and quality of work life. This study aims at discovering influencing factors in the classroom management. The instruments used were rating scale and attitude scale. Subjects were private elementary teachers who were alumni of Faculty of Education Atma Jaya Catholic University. The results revealed that self-confidence had direct and indirect effect as exogenous variable toward career commitment, quality of work life, and teachers’ ability in the classroom management as endogenous variables. Self-confidence was the factor that played a role in supporting teachers in the classroom management. The implication is that the influencing factor which made teachers possible to manage the classroom need their confident and proud as teaching profession. Some hindrances teachers faced in the classroom stemmed from external factors.
