Abstract
Though challenges to development are increasing in variety, high levels of poverty and unemployment remain the foremost, particularly among the youth. High levels of poverty and unemployment lead to a plethora of other social problems in society. Universities are important institutions in addressing such issues, as they can play a significant role in addressing economic and social problems in society. Schools of higher learning can, for instance, prepare a younger generation capable of creating new jobs for themselves and others. Such efforts are already underway in many universities through such activities as the teaching of entrepreneurship in their curriculum. However, as the main goal of commercial (business) entrepreneurship is the creation of profit and increase of individual economic status, these efforts have ignored social problems. Rather, efforts to increase universities' contributions to society can be realised by introducing social entrepreneurship in the learning process. Through social entrepreneurship, the various social problems which have thus far been ignored can receive the attention they deserve. Social entrepreneurship education has developed rapidly in developed nations such as the United States and United Kingdom. However, in developing nations such as Indonesia, social entrepreneurship education has only recently been discussed. Studies of the development of social entrepreneurship education worldwide have indicated that experiential learning is the most commonly adopted learning method for social entrepreneurship teaching at the university level.
