Abstract
CV. Makmur Jaya Engineering is a manufacturing company concern in the producing the iron-based air conditioning and TV bracket . Some of the problem symptoms that occured in this company are the achievement of production in April to October 2016 were not 100% reached the target, high turnover rate of 20%, as well as frequent double job on some employees. The purpose of this study to analyze the mental workload in the CV. Makmur Jaya Engineering using NASA-TLX method, measuring the optimum number of employees in each division, knowing the effect of mental workload on employee performance using Spearman rank correlation test, and to know the influence of gender factor difference and employee's rest adequacy level against mental workload with independent samples t-test. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires to 30 respondents using total sampling method (census). According to the results of data processing, it was found that the level of mental workload in CV. Makmur Jaya Engineering as a whole is high. All divisions in this company have a high mental workload, so it’s necessary to increase the quantity of employees in each division by recruitment. The result of spearman rank correlation test is -0.499, where the mental work load has a negative relationship to employee performance and the strength of the relationship is in the medium category. Meanwhile, the main factors that can cause mental workload to be varied in CV. Makmur Jaya Engineering came from external factors. Different level of employee's rest adequacy factor will cause the level of employee mental work load being variated as well. Thus, evidenced by the score of t arithmetic value < t table. To improve the employee performance, company’s leader can do debriefing work motivation. This can be done by doing everyday morning briefing before starting the work activities.
