Abstract
Nowadays, Diesel engine is widely use for daily vehicle and also heavy duty vehicle. The power that Diesel engine gives is very convenience and useful in every sector. Diesel engine’s power is higher than Otto engine, that is why Diesel engine starting to grow in the daily vehicle market. But Diesel engine have a problem which is emission. The Diesel engine emission is higher than Otto engine, but engineer can overcome that problem with after treatment system such as Diesel Particulate Filter, and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst. The research of the
Diesel engine continues until now. Not only after treatment system, but also the fuel and oil of Diesel engine still researched. This paper research about oil type such as synthetic oil and low ash mineral oil effects on fuel consumption, particle number, and exhaust gas emission. Synthetic oil had lower kinematic viscosity and density than low ash mineral oil and this lead to fuel consumption
improvement by synthetic oil usage. Fuel consumption reduction also make CO2 reduction. Synthetic oil also made HC improved because there was a possibility that synthetic oil that used in this research used hydrocarbon basestock. Low ash mineral oil usage also increase particle number. Further this paper introduced the relationship between after treatment system and oil types, also gave an information about oil type that gave more improvement in energy, economy, environment, and also exhaust emission reduction.
