Abstract
Background: Malnutrition is one of most common problem in hospital, including the surgical patients. Many screening tools have been developed to help assess the risk of patients are malnourished or not. Some studies showed that Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) has high sensitiviy and specificity
Goal : to find the sensitivity and specificity of MST in Atma Jaya Hospital’s elective surgical patients.
Method: Clinical data of 96 patients who had undergone elective surgery was retrospectively collected from the medical record department of Atma Jaya Hospital. Data from MST, Body Mass Index (BMI), Hemoglobin (Hb), albumin, and Total Lymphocyte Count (TLC) were collected to be analized using 2x2 table to get sensitivity and specificity value. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0
Results : Sensitivity and specificity of MST based on BMI were 45,5% and 90,6%, sensitivity and specificity of MST based on Hb were 14,7% and 87,1%, specificity of MST based on TLC were 33,3% and 78,3%, specificity of MST based on albumin couldn’t be obtained because it didn’t meet the requirements.
Conclusion : MST has the highest sensitivity and specificity based on IMT.
