Abstract
Tool Steel refers to a wide range of carbon steel and alloy steel with a C content between 0.6-2,4% and contains elements of other alloying elements such as Cr, W, Mo, Mn. Tool Steel is suitable for use in forming other materials such as molds and dies. In accordance with its designation, tool steels are required to have a high hardness. For that, it needs heat treatment process in order to increase hardness of the tool steel so as to meet the requirements of tool steel application. Hardening through heat treatment process can be achieved by quenching process using a cooling medium. At A2 Tool Steel quenching process the tool steel can be performed without sufficient means of cooling medium, simply using air is enough. Cooling followed by tempering process that aims to restore the ductility of the material by means of Tool Steel reheating at a given temperature. Therefore, the tempering process plays an important role in order to A2 Tool Steel can be applied so the optimal tempering temperature and hold time is needed. In order to be used in all applications, A2 Tool Steel tempering process needs to be performed at a sufficiently low temperature and do as much as 2 times for 2 hours each cycle
