Isi artikel
Edward de Bono is one of very few writers whose programs for teaching people to think have enjoyed a wide-international reputation. De Bono's CoRT thinking lessons and lateral thinking constitute part of the school curriculum in over twenty five countries. It is therefore surprising that despite de Bono's popularity, his work has never been publicly scrutinized by philosophers or professional educators. The present essay attempts to rectify this situation by examining precisely what de Bono means by "thinking," and to assess the educational value of his programs. This paper argues that de Bono's view of thinking is systematically unclear, and that his teaching programs supplant the complex phenomena of thinking with superficial heuristic devices, which entertain more than educate.
