Milan Kundera is, nowadays, one of the most outstanding figures in world literature; surprisingly, however, studies of his work are scarce. This scarcity is especially flagrant in the Spanish speaking world, even though Kundera's entire oeuvre has been translated into Spanish and is highly regarded by Hispanic critics and writers. Unfortunately, these few attempts at criticism have produced an interpretative disorientation, in some cases, due to the critics' unexpected task, which Kundera himself mocks throughout his essays. The current study endeavours to systemize Kundera's fictional conception across the full range of his vast literary production, studying in depth the means and aims pursued by his literary activity and, in this way, to provide a more complete and accurate view of the Czech writer.
