Isi artikelMany kinds of surfactants have beeb used for several applications, which are mostly chemically synthesized from petrochemicals. However, those surfactants are toxic and have seriously negative impact on the environment. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is Gram-negative bacteria that can produce glycolipid bio-surfactant, which is named rhamnolipid. Such bacteria can use several kinds of substrate to produce the bio-suefactants including glucose, mannose, glycerol, ethanol, palmitic acid and hydrocarbon such as hexadecane. In this research the possibility of P. aeruginose isolated from clinical waste to use sugar cane molasses to produce rhamnolipid is examined. In addiction, A Strategy to overcome foaming problem arising in the aerobich fermentation process using anaerobic fermentation in denitrification medium is also investigated. From the experiment, molasses can be used by the bacteria to produce rhamnolipid. The result show higher biomass growth and production yield of rhamnolipid for aerobic fermentation than for anaerobic fermentation. The concentration of rhamnolipid produced can reach up to 326 ppm for aerobich fermentation and 186 ppm for anaerobic fermentation.
