Abstract
In this era of globalization, companies or organizations are required to work effectively and efficiently in every business process that is done to achieve the predetermined business goals. One of them is by improving existing business process. The development of information technology as well as its systems take roles in supporting the organization's business process. The improvement of business process not only can be applied in a manufacturing organization, but also applicable to the organization of service providers. Atma Jaya Catholic Unviersity of Indonesia is one of the higher education organization, which always trying to do the improvement of their business process. Services provided by Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia to the students would not only be in terms of academic teaching and learning, but also performed in the process of administrative services at the Faculty, one of which is the Faculty of Engineering. The improvement of business process towards the student service at the Faculty of Engineering is focused on the 7 existing business processes, which are 1) the application for data-retrieval letter to the company, (2) the applicationfor special re-exam, (3) the application for make-up exam, (4) the applicationfor lecturing activity permission, (5) the application for practicumpermission, (6) the permission for an internship letter, and (7) the applicationfor college student information letter.
The improvement is conducted by collecting data from interviews with students, the administration office employees, and the faculty leaders, as well as other data such as forms and procedures that contributed to the business process. Process mapping is conducted by using IDEF0, in order to visually simplify the description of the process and analyze any running process. The proposed systemnot onlycontributes to the system design, but also contributes to the service of those who run the business process. The proposed systemare: applying an online, information-and-technology-based systems; suggestions for the services which is provided directly by the owner of the business process to the students; and also procedures or work instructions and application forms which can be used to repair the online system.This proposed systemis performed in order to achieve the satisfaction of students of the Faculty of Engineering in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
