Abstract
The drying process of fish, especially in Kedungmalang Village, Kedung, Jepara, Central Java today is still using traditional way, in which the local fish entrepreneur uses the dryer shelves directly at the point of 15° to the direction of sun rays. This method caused the result of drying process is not hygienic and it takes time around 3 days of drying. Therefore, this fish dryer machine with solar collectors is designed as one alternative solution to make the drying process become more optimal. Things that want to be achieved in designing this machine is not only to shorten the drying time process, but also get the result of hygienic fish drying with minimum operational costs. This fish dryer machine with solar collectors use the main heat source from solar energy that will be absorbed by plat absorber and heat from the burning garden rubbishes that will be piped to the dryer shelves using natural convection. The selection components of this machine are also use economical materials, but still pay attention to its main function. This drying machine can produce the salted fish with moisture content 20% within one day, with the capacity of 80 fishes that has size around 20cm x 10cm per fish. Based on the testing of the machine, so it can be concluded that this drying fish machine can shorten the drying time process from 3 days to 1 day of drying.
