Background: Elder population has been increasing all around the world, including in Indonesia which is a challenge but also a potential. It gathers more interests about successful aging (SA) where elder is a source and not a burden. SA is a multidimensional concept that includes some biopsychosocial determinants. In achieving SA, there are several influencing factors including sociodemographic factor, psychosocial factor, body mass index and spirituality. Aims: To gain an overview of sociodemographic factor, psychosocial factor, body mass index and spirituality also its association with successful aging in elder at Kelurahan Cideng. Method: This study was a descriptive-analytic study with a design of cross-sectional. The study was held at Kelurahan Cideng in January-February 2017. Elder aged 60 or above were simple randomly selected to fill out the questionnaires, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Geriatric Depression Scale, and Mini Mental State Examination also the physical examination and laboratory tests. Data were analyzed by using chi-square statistical method with p = 0,05. Result: Total respondents were 207. Successful agers are around 29%. Elder at Kelurahan Cideng mostly aged above 65 (57%), are women (68,1%), have high education (61,8%). There are 58,9% elder exercise regularly, 13% elder smoke, 16,9% elder have good social support, 41,1% elder have obesity and 92,3% elder have good spirituality. Chi-square analysis shows that there is no association between successful aging with age, sex, exercise, smoking, social support and body mass index (p>0,05). On the other hand, education level and spirituality associate with successful aging (p<0,05). Conclusion: There is no association between age, sex, exercise, smoking, social support and body mass index with successful aging, but there is an association between education level and spirituality with successful aging. |
