Abstract
BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease that ranks second as the world’s leading cause of death. Chronic infections such as TB has a high prevalence of mental illnesses as a comorbid disease, one of them includes depressive disorder. Depressive disorder in TB patients is influenced by many factors, such as socio demographic factors and TB characteristics (duration of illness, severity of disease, duration of medication, previous medication history, and response towards chemotherapy). This study aims to determine the factors influencing depressive disorder in pulmonary TB patients at Atma Jaya Hospital.
METHODS: This research is an observational analytic-descriptive study which was done cross sectionally. This research was conducted by distributing questionnaires
and interviewing 88 pulmonary TB patients at Atma Jaya Hospital. The data collected were analyzed using logistic regression
RESULTS: The result of bivariate analysis showed that gender (p=0.230), level of education (p=0.074), duration of illness (p=0.082), duration of medication (p=0.075), and severity of disease (p=0.027) were statistically associated to depressive disorder in pulmonary TB patients. The results of multivariate analysis with logistic regression showed that patients with illness duration of 0-6 months (p=0.312), 6 months – 1 year (p=0.422), and 1-1 years (p=0.422) were not statistically associated to depressive disorder in pulmonary TB patients.
CONCLUSION: Factors associated with depressive disorder in pulmonary TB patients in Atma Jaya Hospital are gender, level of education, duration of illness, duration of medication, and severity of disease. There were no determinant factors associated with depressive disorder in pulmonary TB patients at Atma Jaya Hospital.
