Abstract
Background : Chronic Rhinosinusitis is one of the most diagnosed chronic disease in the world. The prevalence of rhinosinusitis in Indonesia is quite high, data from RI
Health Departmen in 2003 stated that the disease falls on the 25th ranking out of 50 major disease. The escessive use of antibiotics to treat rhinosinusitis also lead to the spread of antibiotic resistance.
Objective : To find out the characteristic of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis in adults at Atma Jaya Hospital.
Methods : Descriptive analytic with retrospective study using medical records in 2015. The samples were records of patients with chronic rinosinusitis in Atma Jaya Hospital taken by simple random sampling.
Result : Overall sample, the sum of female sample is 41 (56,16%) and the rest are men. Incidence is mostly occurred on the age 18-35 years (50,68%). The most
common clinical symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis are nasal discharge (76,16%). The other is nasal obstruction 53 cases (72,6%), facial pain/pressure 12 cases (16,44%), and hiposmia 23 cases (31,5%). The most given management of chronic rhinosinusitis is antibiotics with 61 patients (83,56%). The other is topical steroid 52 patients (71,23%). Nasal irrigation 17 patients (23,29%). In this study there is no operation management found.
Conclusion : Woman has the highest prevalence for chronic rhinosinusits. The most common age distribution found was 18 – 35 years old. The most common clinical
sign was nasal discharge. The most often therapy used was antibiotic.
