Background Medicine program has introduced new platform to enrich medical students knowledge on the topic of medical education. Students as prospective educators and health professionals need to understand medical education. Therefore, they would be able to develop their knowledge in teaching and learning methods. Medical Education Course could be one way to introduce students to the topic of medical education. Objective The aim of this study were to comprehend the influence of medical education topic on students’ perspective and critical thinking. Methods One focus group with 10 third year medical were conducted three times: prior to and right after the elective block, and also a month post the elective.The FGDs took each 15- to 50- min. Discussion was audiotaped, transcribed and analysed using content analysis methods. 34 respondents were assessed using Tes Berpikir Kritis (KBK) questionnare to review students’ critical thinking. The data were retrieved three times around the FGD and analyzed comparatively. Results Students’ critical thinking hasn’t changed and stayed at moderate level with 28,85 as the average score. Medical students perception of medical education was changed after the elective subject was done. Before, they only see medical education as a subject which made curriculum. After the elective, they now percept it as a ramification of medicine.Some of them giving sign of interest to pursue medical education at a higher level of education. One month after they passed the elective, they apply their knowlege on every day life. Conclusion There are no significant differences on students’ critical thinking. On the other hand, students perception of medical education before the elective begun, after it finished, and one month after the subject learnt are improved. Therfore, the elective study should continue and provide students learn more of medical education. |
