Abstract
Background : There are various factors which influence nutritional status of children such as physical activity and sedentary behaviour. Physical activity and sedentary behaviour like watching television, playing video game, and surfing the internet are thought to influence nutritional status since they determine the number of calories the body burns. This research aims to identify the association between physical activity, sedentary behaviour and nutritional status.
Methods : The study design used was cross sectional. Subjects in this research were grade IV and V students of SDN Pademangan Timur 01 Pagi North Jakarta. In this research the body weight and height of the subjects were measured with weigher and microtoise. The physical activity and sedentary behaviour were measured with the PAQ-C and CLASS questionnaire. The statistical analyses used are One-Way Anova for physical activity and Chi-Square for sedentary behaviour.
Results : The results shows that the data are normally distributed (p> 0.05). There is no significant association between physical activity and nutrirional status (p>0,05). Conversely, there is a significant association between sedentary behaviour and nutritional status on both weekdays and weekend (p<0,05).
Conclusions : This study shows that there is no significant association between physical activity and nutritional status. Furthermore, time spent in sedentary behaviour has a positive association with obesity.
